SIMAD University was established as an institute on November 6, 1999, and began its operations with great enthusiasm. This journey reached a significant milestone on January 20, 2011, when the Board of Trustees of the former Somali Institute of Management and Administration Development (SIMAD) approved its transformation into a full-fledged university.
Initially, our faculty offered programs in Law and Legal Studies, which later evolved into the Faculty of Law. In 2015, the top management of SIMAD University decided to rebrand the faculty, resulting in the formation of the Faculty of Law. This change aimed to reflect the broadening scope of legal disciplines and expertise within the faculty.
To expand our academic offerings, we introduced two additional programs. In 2013, the Bachelor of International Law program was launched, offering an in-depth understanding of global legal systems. Subsequently, in 2014, the Bachelor of Criminal Justice program was introduced, preparing students for careers in criminal law and justice.
As our faculty continued to grow, we remained committed to maintaining a high standard of legal education. In 2023, we proudly expanded our program portfolio once again. Two exciting additions were made: the Bachelor of Human Rights and Public Law program, which focuses on the protection of human rights and governance, and the Bachelor of Legal Practice program, designed to equip students with practical legal skills.
Today, the Faculty of Law is one of the largest and most prestigious faculties within SIMAD University. It offers a diverse range of programs: Law, International Law, Criminal Justice, Human Rights and Public Law, and Legal Practice. This array of programs caters to students’ varied interests and prepares them for successful careers in the dynamic field of law.
