A group of students from the Faculty of Law, SIMAD University, conducted an educational visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, specifically the East Africa Department, to deepen their understanding of legal harmonization, the alignment of national legislation with the East African Community (EAC) legal frameworks, and the procedures governing international agreements.
The students were accompanied by the Coordinator of the Advocacy and Mooting Unit, Faculty of Law – SIMAD University, who underscored the significance of experiential learning in exposing law students to the practical functions of government institutions and regional legal systems.
During the session, Mr. Mahad Mohamed Abukar, Director of the East Africa Department, delivered a comprehensive briefing on how the Federal Government of Somalia engages in international treaties and the mechanisms used to harmonize domestic legislation with regional laws within the East African Community. He also emphasized the importance of legal harmonization in promoting effective regional cooperation and integration among member states.
This visit forms part of the Faculty of Law’s ongoing commitment to bridge theoretical legal education with practical exposure, equipping students with the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute meaningfully to Somalia’s legal and diplomatic advancement at both the national and regional levels.
