INTRODUCTION
The demand for law graduates with specialized skills in various branches of law has increased with the growing legal needs in both the public and private sectors in Somalia. The globalization of legal systems and international law has made it essential for law schools to train and nurture legal professionals for emerging economies. SIMAD University’s Law graduates are equipped for a wide variety of careers, including legal practice, government positions, human rights advocacy, legal consultancy, and corporate law, among many others.
PROGRAM GOALS
The program aims to promote knowledge and awareness of legal principles, real-world legal perspectives, analytical and logical thinking, problem-solving, communication skills, and teamwork. We foster excellence in legal education, acquire and disseminate legal knowledge, and produce graduates in Law who possess the attributes and skills necessary to thrive in an interconnected, global legal landscape.
The law program is designed for students who wish to pursue careers in government, private legal practice, and legal positions in non-governmental organizations (NGOs), international organizations, or corporate legal departments.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
Students who successfully complete the SIMAD B.A. in Law will be well-rounded and highly skilled individuals prepared to face the challenges of both public sector and legal practice management. The Law degree at SIMAD serves the following main objectives:
To competently prepare, analyze, and interpret a variety of legal information: constitutional, statutory, regulatory, and socio-political that impacts both national and international legal systems.
To apply sound legal principles and practices to real-world legal challenges in both public and private sectors, and in an increasingly multicultural legal environment.
To offer the skills necessary to identify, measure, analyze, interpret legal information, and communicate effectively while applying legal technology to solve legal challenges.
To challenge and inspire students to seek knowledge and develop viable legal solutions for contemporary and future societal challenges.
To develop public legal professionals who serve society within sound ethical and moral boundaries, adhering to the highest standards of legal practice.
To be competent in pursuing graduate and professional studies in law and related fields globally.
JUSTIFICATION
The following justifications highlight the core aspects of the program:
Written, analytical, and critical thinking skills will be enhanced through courses in Legal Writing and Research, as well as courses in the English and Arabic languages.
To equip students with practical and technological skills, courses in Information Technology (IT) and Legal Technologies have been introduced to the program.
Legal Research courses will provide foundational skills for those interested in legal research or further legal education.
Specialized courses in Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, International Law, Human Rights, and Civil Law offer a solid foundation for a career in legal practice or further specialization.
The program includes an intensive internship in a legal or governmental organization, which enhances the students’ knowledge, skills, and practical experience.
Moot court and advocacy courses will equip students with the practical skills necessary for legal practice and client advocacy.
Project management courses will provide hands-on knowledge of managing legal cases and projects.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN LAW
With a degree in law, students can pursue the following careers:
Legal Advisor, Corporate Counsel, Human Rights Advocate, Public Prosecutor, Criminal Defense Attorney, Legal Consultant, Contract Manager, Judicial Officer (Judge, Magistrate), Policy Advisor, Legal Educator, Litigation Associate, Legal Researcher, Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Legal Officer, Immigration Lawyer, Family Law Practitioner, International Law Expert, Corporate Compliance Officer, and many others.
- Completion of secondary school with a minimum overall average of 50%
- Should bring the original and a copy of secondary school certificate
- Should bring Six (6) passport size photos with white background
- Should bring the original copy of a letter of good conduct issued by your secondary school
- Should bring a sponsorship letter from your guardian
- Should successfully pass an admission interview and/or test
- Pay non-refundable Processing and ID card fees of USD $50 (bank draft)

STUDENTS FEES PAYMENT POLICY
This policy applies to all students, these include: part-time and full-time for both undergraduate and postgraduate and any other person enrolled as a student at the University:
- Option one: At the beginning of the semester, all semester fees can be paid in full.
- Option two: At the beginning of the semester, students should pay 30% of semester fees before he/she registers for the class. In the second installment, 40% of the semester fees should be paid before the midterm exam. The remaining 30% of the semester fees should be paid before the final exam.
- After payments of second and third installments, students are eligible to get their clearance cards for midterm and final exams.
- Fees Collector officer will be responsible to check fees default when he/she gets a report from the head of the cash unit.
- SU will not refund any fees paid unless the student has no remaining semester.
- Students and sponsors who unintentionally or intentionally deposit fees will not be refunded but will be forwarded to the next semesters.
- Upon graduation period, all extra fees balance should be refunded to the students.
- Any student who temporarily or permanently breaks his/her study can request an extra fee refund.
- Head of Cash Unit should check the activities of the sponsors.
